Frances Barber established herself as a distinguished stage actress, winning the 1997 Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Uncle Vanya. Her notable roles included Elsa in The Unfriend, Mrs. Cheveley in An Ideal Husband, and Billie Trix in Closer to Heaven. She also received the Olivier Award for Most Promising Newcomer for her role in Camille (1985).
