Alex Newell is known for their Tony Award-winning performance as Lulu in Shucked at Nederlander Theatre and their television role as Unique Adams in Glee. Their stage credits include the role of Asaka Once on This Island at the Circle in the Square Theatre and performances in concert productions of Pippin and Gutenberg! The Musical!. Newell won the 2023 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for their performance in Shucked, and along with J. Harrison Ghee, became the first nonbinary performer to win a Tony Award.
