The National Theatre has named its 2024-25 season lineup, including a world-premiere play starring Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) and numerous other high-profile shows as Rufus Norris serves his final season as director of the National Theatre.

Pike, who has previously appeared in the West End in Hitchcock Blonde and Tennessee Williams' Summer and Smoke, will play a High Court Judge of dubious moral character in Inter Alia. The new play is written by Suzie Miller and directed by Justin Martin, the team behind the award-winning Prima Facie starring Jodie Comer.

Dates have yet to be announced.

Additionally, Stephen Sondheim's final musical, Here We Are, will make its West End debut from 23 April to 28 June with a cast that includes Tracie Bennett, Rory Kinnear, Denis O’Hare, Michael Sheen, Cherrelle Skeete, and Juliet Stevenson.

Here We Are featured a book by David Ives and, based on two films by the filmmaker Luis Buñuel, follows a group of wealthy elites on a never-ending journey to get dinner. The show, which was the last one Sondheim worked on before his death in 2021, premiered at The Shed in New York in 2023.

Also part of the season is Michael Abbensetts’ Alterations, one of the essential works from Black Plays Archive based at the National Theatre. The show about the Guyanese experience of 1970s London will be directed by Lynette Linton from 20 February to 5 April.

The critically acclaimed Dear England by James Graham will return to London for a limited time only, from 10 March to 24 May, once again directed by Rupert Goold.

From 3 July to 16 August, Nye by Tim Price and directed by Norris will provide the theatre institution with an incendiary take on national identity. Nye will also be available to watch via a free global YouTube stream from 7-11 November 2024.

London Road, the revilutionary verbatim musical that landed Norris the role of Associate Director at the National Theatre, will make its return to the stage from 5-21 June.

The National's 2024-25 programming also includes world-premiere plays by Shaan Sahota (The Estate, dir. Daniel Raggett), David Lan (The Land of the Living; dir. Stephen Daldry), and David Eldridge (End; dir. Rachel O'Riordan), all at dates to be announced.
