& Juliet extends West End engagement to February 2022
Performances will resume at the Shaftesbury Theatre from May 2021.
Although all West End theatres are currently shut as a result of the national lockdown, & Juliet has announced an extension period. The Olivier Award-winning musical will play at the Shaftesbury Theatre to 12 February 2022, with a return date currently scheduled for 28 May 2021.
Inspired by William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet, & Juliet sees the female protagonist's story rewritten. Instead of dying, she travels to Paris to live her life, set to a soundtrack of Max Martin songs, including "Break Free" by Ariana Grande and "Roar" by Katy Perry.
Miriam-Teak Lee plays Juliet, alongside Cassidy Janson as Anne Hathaway and David Bedella as Lance, all three winning Olivier Awards for their performances in October 2020. Oliver Tompsett plays William Shakespeare, with Jordan Luke Gage as Romeo and Melanie La Barrie as the Nurse.
In a review for LondonTheatre.co.uk, Mark Shenton praised the show: "re-writing Romeo and Juliet in a way that keeps both of them alive - and gives Juliet a lot more agency... it is performed with a glinting knowingness and powerful pop theatre voices."
& Juliet is at the Shaftesbury Theatre from 28 May 2021.
