'Cake: The Marie Antoinette Playlist' to open at The Other Palace
Morgan Lloyd Malcolm, Tasha Taylor Johnson, and Jack McManus's musical looks at the life of Marie Antoinette, the last queen consort of France prior to the French Revolution.
West End star Zizi Strallen and SIX's Renée Lamb will reprise their roles as Marie Antoinette and Jeanne, respectively, in Cake: The Marie Antoinette Playlist when it opens at London's The Other Palace on 13 September for a strictly limited season.
The musical had try-out performances at The Lyric Theatre last year and follows the gossip and scandal surrounding Marie Antoinette — the last queen consort of France prior to the French Revolution — after she is implicated in a crime.
Described as a "brand-new musical, come gig, come ballet", the show has an award-winning creative team that includes writers Morgan Lloyd Malcolm (Emilia), Tasha Taylor Johnson (The Cat In The Hat), and Jack McManus.
Bronagh Lagan (Cruise) directs and Christopher Tendai (Closer to Heaven) joins as choreographer, the two building on Olivier Award winner Drew McOnie's (In the Heights, Jesus Christ Superstar) original show.
The rest of the creative team includes set and costume design by Sami Fendall and lighting design by Joshie Harriette.
Paul Taylor-Mills, Artistic Director of The Other Palace, said: “I’m delighted we are bringing CAKE to The Other Palace for a full run, as this brand-new genre busting musical continues to evolve following on from its try-out last year.
"Completing our 2024 programme of new musicals and developing work, from Cruel Intentions the Musical at the start of the year to Babies currently receiving rave reviews, and Fantastically Great Women Who Changed The World over the summer, the London Premiere of The Lightning Thief, this will literally be the icing on the CAKE!"
