A new staging of Into the Woods and the return of an immersive production of A Midsummer Night's Dream will make up the Bridge Theatre's 2025 season of shows.

A Midsummer Night's Dream, directed by Bridge co-founder Nicholas Hytner, will begin previews on 31 May, running until 23 August. It was first produced at the venue in 2019, and the immersive format allowed 400 people to stand close to the action, with over 100,000 people attending the show.

The cast will include JJ Feild (Little Disasters, Austenland, Captain America) as Oberon/Theseus, Susannah Fielding (The Merchant of Venice, This Time with Alan Partridge) as Titania/Hippolyta, Emmanuel Akwafo (For the Black Boys…, Sex Education) as Bottom and David Moorst (Killing Eve, Blitz), who returns to the role of Puck/Philostrate. Further casting is to be announced.

The rest of the creative team includes production design by Bunny Christie, costumes by Christina Cunningham, lighting by Bruno Poet, sound design by Paul Arditti, music by Grant Holding, and movement by Arlene Phillips. Phillips won an Olivier Award last year for her choreography for Guys & Dolls at the same venue.

The revival of Into the Woods, which begins previews on 2 December and runs until 18 April, 2026, will reunite director Jordan Fein with Tony Award-winning designer Tom Scutt (Cabaret) following their collaboration on Fiddler on the Roof at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre last summer, which now transfers to the Barbican.

It will be the first outing of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's musical in London for almost a decade. Into The Woods follows a baker and his wife, who are determined to reverse a curse of from a witch that has condemned them to childlessness, weaving together four Grimm fairytales.

Casting is still to be announced.

Nicholas Hytner, co-founder of The Bridge, said: "Into The Woods is one of the great achievements of the American stage.

"Jordan Fein’s production of Fiddler on the Roof at the Open Air Theatre last year was a triumph, beautifully staged and overwhelmingly moving, and Tom Scutt has established himself across the world as a designer of rare talent and imagination."
