Born in Swaziland, Noma Dumezweni then moved to Suffolk as a child. Dumezweni has established herself as a theatre actress, notably originating the role of Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Dumezweni has acted with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Antony and Cleopatra at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in 2002 and The Winter’s Tale at the Courtyard Theatre. Other notable performances include A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Master of Margarita and Nathan the Wise, as well as her performace as Alice in Henry V alongside Jude Law at the Noel Coward Theatre.
She also starred in Linda at the Royal Court which received much acclaim. However it was her performance for the Young Vic’s A Raisin in the Sun at the Lyric Hammersmith that won her the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role. In 2016, she returned to the West End as Hermione Granger in *Harry Potter and the Cursed Child* at the Palace Theatre, alongside Jamie Parker. She won Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the Oliviers, and reprised the role on Broadway, earning a Tony nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Play.
Outside the theatre he has appeared in many television shows including Holby City, Silent Witness, The Bill, Shameless, New Tricks, EastEnders and as Captain Erisa Magambo in Doctor Who.
