Born in Swansea in 1961, Owen Teale trained at the Guildford School of Acting. He made his television debut in 1984 in The Mimosa Boys. He later appeared in Great Expectations, Knights of God and Boon. In the nineties, he was cast as Will Scarlet in Robin Hood. In 2005 he played the lead role in Marian, Again, directed by David Drury. He is perhaps best known for his role in hit HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones as Alliser Thorne.
In 1997, Teal won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his role of Torvald in Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, alongside Janet McTeer in the Belasco Theatre, New York. Since then, he has played in numerous West End shows including the title role in Ivanov at the National Theatre, Kurt in Dance a Death at the Lyric Theatre and Creditors at the Donmar Warehouse.
Teale returned to theatre in 2016, starring in No Man’s Land at the Wyndham’s Theatre, starring alongside Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart.
