‘The Cher Show’ to tour UK and Ireland in 2022, directed by Arlene Phillips
Strictly Come Dancing's Oti Mabuse will choreograph the production.
A new production of The Cher Show will tour the United Kingdom and Ireland next year, following a Broadway production in 2018. The Cher Show tour will include a week at the New Wimbledon Theatre, with London performances from 31 January - 4. Feb. 2023.
The Cher Show dramatises her rise to fame and the influential figures in her life, including Sonny Bono and Bob Mackie. The Cher Show features an original book by Rick Elice, and the score includes 35 Cher songs including "Believe", "I Got You Babe" and "If I Could Turn Back Time".
Arlene Phillips will direct The Cher Show, previously directing Starlight Express and Saturday Night Fever. Ahead of The Cher Show, she said "I have been a fan of Cher since I first heard I Got You Babe in the mid-sixties and cannot wait to direct her musical. I love stories about strong inspirational legends like Cher... This exciting show will be a non-stop journey of Cher's rollercoaster life, bringing to the audience Cher's iconic songs, glorious dance numbers, unique costumes and her epic drama. All they need to do is come along and Believe."
Oti Mabuse will choreograph The Cher Show, with costume design by the Olivier Award-nominated Gabriella Slade. Casting and a further creative team is to be announced.
The Cher Show ran for nine months at the Neil Simon Theatre on Broadway. In a review of The Cher Show for New York Theatre Guide, "The production radiates, providing thrills when you least expect it, and setting off a slew of emotional triggers for those who grew up with Cher on their radio, television and lunch box."
The Cher Show is at the New Wimbledon Theatrefrom 31 January - 4 Feb. 2023.
