Stephen Fry to star in ‘The Understudy’ in the West End
There'll be two performances of The Understudy in December.
UPDATE: Further casting has been confirmed for The Understudy. Matthew Horne, Emily Atack, Adelayo Adedayo, Lucy Briggs-Owen, and Jake Ferretti will all star in productions at the Palace Theatre.
After the online premiere which took place earlier this year, The Understudy will receive its stage premiere in December. Stephen Fry will star in the two performances, taking place at the Palace Theatre from 7-8 December.
Based on David Nicholls' 2005 novel of the same name, Henry Filloux-Bennett's play follow Stephen, who waits for his time to shine as a West End understudy. Thinking about his career to date, he begins to wonder whether the industry is for him.
Stephen Fry will appear in The Understudy, returning to the London stage after his Greek trilogy at the London Palladium last year. Further casting includes James Norton, Mina Anwar, Natalie Casey, Sasha Frost, Marie Lawrence, James McNicholas and Lizzie Muncey, with more to be announced.
The Understudy is a semi-staged, rehearsed reading, which is being performed to a live audience in order to support the arts.
Giles Croft directs, with lighting design by Chris Brearley, sound design by Alexandra Faye Braithwaite and video design by Mark Kendrick and Christopher McGill for DustHouse.
The Understudy is at the Palace Theatre from 7-8 December.
