I Was Looking at the Ceiling and then I Saw the Sky, at the Theatre Royal Stratford East, in east London, from 2 to 17 July 2010.

Music composed by John Adams. Libretto & Lyrics by June Jordan. Co produced with the Barbican.

It is directed by Kerry Michael and Matthew Xia , designed by Adam Wiltshire, sound by John Leonard.

Cast includes Jason Denton, Cynthia Erivo, Anna Mateo, Leon Lopez, Stewart Charlesworth, Natasha J Barnes, Colin Ryan.

Taking its title from a quote by a survivor of the 1994 earthquake in Northridge, California. A love story that focuses on seven twenty-somethings as their lives become intertwined on their journey towards self-discovery. Their personal dramas play out against the backdrop of social and political themes including racial conflict, sexual identity, persecution of immigrants and desire to rebel against the establishment.
