Six-time Tony Award-winner Audra McDonald returns to Leicester Square Theatre
Audra McDonald joins Seth Rudetsky and Will Swenson in London.
It has been announced that six-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald will return to the West End for four concerts at the Leicester Square Theatre this Spring, performing on April 12 to 15 2017. McDonald previously performed at the venue in 2016 in a sell-out engagement.
The Broadway legend will be joined on stage by host & pianist Seth Rudetsky, alongside a special guest appearance by her husband Will Swenson, the Tony-nominated star of Hair and Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
The format of the concerts has been described as a "seamless mix of intimate behind-the-scenes stories from one of Broadway's biggest stars - prompted by Rudetsky's probing, funny, revealing questions - and Audra singing some of the biggest hits from her musical theatre repertoire. A spontaneous evening of hilarity and show-stopping songs not to be missed."
Her last London concert at the same venue received five-star reviews: "Her dramatic soprano is able to display both technical prowess and a tender warmth, breathing new life into each new song across a varied repertoire" (London Theatre).
Audra McDonald currently holds the record for more Tony Award Best Performance wins than any other actor in history, and is the only person to win all four acting categories. Her Broadway credits include Carousel, 110 in the Shade, A Raisin in the Sun, Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill, The Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, Ragtime, Marie Christine and Shuffle Along, or, the Making of The Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed. She married Will Swenson in 2012 and this past October they became new parents to a baby girl.
The concert will be produced by Mark Cortale who previously presented Patti LuPone and Seth Rudetsky at the Leicester Square Theatre in 2013.
Tickets for the concert are now on sale.
