Ruthless the Musical to receive UK premiere in London
Joel Paley and Marvin Laird's musical Ruthless is set to get its UK premiere in London this spring, with a limited run at the Arts Theatre.
The musical, which features all-female characters, is about a talented 8-year-old girl called Tina who would do anything for the lead role in her school's play. It has a book and lyric by Paley, and music by Laird.
Ruthless was first performed Off-Broadway in 1992, and is known for famously spoofing Broadway musicals such as Gypsy and Mame. The premiere feature Laura Bell Bundy (original Elle Woods in Legally Blonde and Amber Von Tussle in Hairspray) in the central role, as well as Britney Spears and Natalie Portman as understudies. It has run at various regional theatres in America, and will be seen in the UK for the first time from 16th March to 23rd June, with an official opening on 27th March.
The London production will be directed by Richard Fitch with choreography by Rebecca Howell, design by Morgan Large, lighting by Tim Lutkin, sound by Gregory Clarke and musical supervision by Gareth Valentine.
Casting for the musical is yet to be announced.
Ruthless the Musical is at the Arts Theatre from 16th March to 23rd June.
