‘Preludes’ livestream concerts to be broadcast from Southwark Playhouse
The musical originally ran in London in 2019.
Ahead of Southwark Playhouse reopening its doors for in-person performances, the off-West End venue will be home to livestream concerts in May. After an acclaimed 2019 run, Preludes will return in concert version, with livestreams on 7 and 8 May.
Based on the recorded hypnotherapy sessions of 19th century composer Sergei Rachmaninoff, Preludes sees the musician struggle to create music. Penning symphonies in his teens and engaged at an early age, Sergei is then haunted by nightmares. But, can he remain one of the greatest artists of all time.
Preludes is written by Dave Malloy, whose credits include Ghost Quartet and Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812.
Casting for Preludes concerts remains the same as the 2019 production. Tom Noyes plays Sergei, with Georgia Louise as Natalya, Rebecca Caine as Dahl, Norton James as Chaliapin, Keith Ramsay as Rach and Steven Serlin as The Master.
Southwark Playhouse will open for in-person performances from 17 May with You Are Here, starring Wendi Peters and Rebecca Lock.
