For the first time in a decade, Matthew Bourne's dance adaptation of Edward Scissorhands will play in London. Edward Scissorhands is at Sadler’s Wells from 5 December to 20 Jan. 2024.

Based on Tim Burton's 1990 film of the same name starring Johnny Depp, Edward Scissorhands follows the title character as he navigates a new world. When he’s suddenly orphaned, a townswoman takes him in, leaving Edward to find a new place in society that accepts him for his true self.

“I’ve always been attracted by ‘outsider’ stories in my work and Edward Scissorhands is the ultimate ‘outsider’ story. Its tale of how we treat people who we perceive as being ‘different’ in our communities has never been more timely,” said Matthew Bourne.

Bourne devises, directs, and choreographs Edward Scissorhands. As well as leading his dance company, New Adventures, Bourne's also choreographed South Pacific and Mary Poppins. Find out more about Matthew Bourne.

The show is based on the original motion picture by arrangement with 20th Century Studios, with an original story and motion picture directed by Tim Burton, original screenplay, story and co-adaptation by Caroline Thompson, and new music and arrangements by Terry Davies based on themes from the motion picture score composed by Danny Elfman.

The show features set and costumes by Lez Brotherston, lighting design by Howard Harrison, and sound design by Paul Groothuis.
