'Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical' postponed to October 2021
The world premiere will still open at the Lyric Theatre.
In the same week that Sister Act and Good have postponed their London runs, Get Up! Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical is the latest show to be pushed back. The Bob Marley world premiere production will now begin at the Lyric Theatre in October, with performances scheduled to 3 Apr. 2022.
In a tweet from the production, the musical is delayed until social distancing is lifted. They have confirmed they are "busy behind the scenes getting ready to welcome audiences to this uplifting show and the legendary music of Bob Marley later this year."
The first preview of Get Up! Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical will now take place at the Lyric Theatre on 1 October, with an opening night on 20 October.
Written by Lee Hall, the biographical Bob Marley musical will detail Marley's career from the hills of rural Jamaica to London, spreading a message of love and unity. Songs confirmed in Get Up! Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical include "Exodus", "No Woman No Cry" and "3 Little Birds" with a full list of potential songs here.
Arinzé Kene will play Bob Marley in the musical, previously starring in Death of a Salesman and his one-man play Misty at Trafalgar Studios. Clint Dyer will direct, taking over duties from Dominic Cooke.
