You can be an Islander on the Rock once more.
UPDATE: An extended booking period for Come From Away has been announced, with performances now scheduled through to 12 Feb. 2022.
Come From Away will reopen its doors to Newfoundland this summer, as a returning date has been confirmed. Come From Away performances will return from 22 Jul. 2021 at the Phoenix Theatre.
Based on the stories of 7,000 air passengers diverted to Gander in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, Come From Away tells of a new resilient, international community that formed. The musical is written by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, who based the musical on true stories they discovered while in Newfoundland in 2011.
Casting for Come From Away includes those who were in the production before theatres shut in March 2020. Alice Fearn stars as Beverley Bass, alongside Jenna Boyd, James Doherty, Mary Doherty, Mark Dugdale, Kate Graham, Alasdair Harvey, Jonathan Andrew Hume, Harry Morrison, Emma Salvo and Cat Simmons, with Chiara Baronti, Ricardo Castro, Stuart Hickey, Sorelle Marsh, Alexander McMorran, Micha Richardson, Jennifer Tierney and Matthew Whennell-Clark.
The five-time Olivier Award-nominated production won best new musical at the Olivier Awards. Come From Away was due to resume concert performances from February 2021, however those shows were cancelled due to the pandemic. When Come From Away returns, it'll be the first time in over a year.
In a five-star review from Mark Shenton, Come From Away is an "alternately poignant and uplifting musical, embedded in a rich folk score that draws on authentic Canadian influences."
