Casting has been announced for Gundog, Simon Longman's new play at the Royal Court which opens later this month.

Gundog is set on an isolated farm where two sisters, Anna and Becky, try to keep their family together after the passing of their mother. They find a stranger wandering across their land, who they go on to form a partnership with to survive.

The Court's artistic director Vicky Featherstone, who recently topped The Stage 100 list of theatre's most influential figures and will direct Gundog, described Longman's debut play at the theatre as 'a bleak and brutal reminder of the poverty and struggle for survival in rural England'.

The cast features Ria Zmitrowicz (Bad Roads), Alan Williams (The Whaleback), Alec Secareanu (Recviem), Rochenda Sandall (Scenes from an Execution) and Alex Austin (Thebes Land).

Longman was part of the Royal Court's Young Writer's Programme in 2013 and won the Channel 4 Playwright Scheme. His previous work includes Sparks (Old Red Lion), Milked (Pentabus) and Why I Don't Like the Sea (Arcola/Lost).

Gundog will run in the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs at the Royal Court from 31st January to 10th March with an official opening on 7th February.
