Anne Reid to star in ‘Marjorie Prime’ at the Menier Chocolate Factory
The UK premiere of Jordan Harrison’s play opens in spring 2023.
The BAFTA-nominated actress Anne Reid will lead the UK premiere of Marjorie Prime this spring. Marjorie Prime previews begin at the Menier Chocolate Factory on 3 March, with an opening night on 15 March, and performances to 6 May.
The Pulitzer Prize-nominated play follows 85-year-old Marjorie as she shares her memories to an artificial intelligence companion. When recalling her life, she’s able to choose what she remembers and what she forgets.
In a New York Theatre Guide review of Marjorie Prime, “playwright Jordan Harrison explores the haunting question of what might happen if memory persists with loss removed from the equation. It's a futuristic trip to a Twilight Zone where no home is complete without lifetime companions who keep the old days alive and compensate for the bothersome realities of death.”
Anne Reid plays Marjorie. The Last Tango in Halifax and The Mother actress’s West End credits include A Woman of No Importance and Hedda Gabler. The Marjorie Prime cast includes Nancy Carroll as Tess, Richard Fleeshman as Walter, and Tony Jayawardena as Jon.
Dominic Dromgoole directs, with set and costume design by Jonathan Fensom, and lighting design by Emma Chapman.
