Born in London in 1945, Lesley Joseph is best known for starring in Birds of a Feather as Dorien Green, alongside Linda Robson and Pauline Quirke. She’s also starred in West End musicals including Young Frankenstein, as well as UK touring productions of Calendar Girls.
Joseph made her Birds of a Feather debut in 1989, playing Dorien Green for nine years. She later reprised the role in the show’s comeback from 2014 to 2017. On television, Joseph has also starred in Alan Ayckbourn’s Absurd Person Singular. Her stage debut came in 1973, performing in Godspell at the Pavillion Theatre, Bournemouth. She’s since starred in a number of pantomimes including Cinderella and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
In 2015, Joseph played Miss Hannigan in a touring production of Annie, previously playing the role in the West End in 1998. However, she earned her first Olivier Award nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Musical as Frau Blucher in Young Frankenstein at the Garrick Theatre.
