Ruth Jones to join 'Sister Act' West End revival
Ruth Jones, star of Gavin and Stacey, is set to make her West End debut as Mother Superior in Sister Act at London's Dominion Theatre in 2024.
Praise be! Ruth Jones will join Olivier Award-winner Beverly Knight when Sister Act returns to the West End next year. Sister Act is at the Dominion Theatre from 15 March 2024 to 31 August 2024.
“I’m proper chuffed to be making my West End debut in Sister Act next March playing the legendary Mother Superior at the Dominion Theatre," Ruth Jones said in a statement. "It’s a crackin’ role and a crackin’ show. Who knew wearing a habit could feel so fabulous! I can’t wait!”
Jones is best known for her role in the award-winning BBC sitcom Gavin & Stacey. She will star as Mother Superior from 15 March to 8 June only, alongside Knight, who will play Deloris Van Cartier. Alexandra Burke will take over the role of Deloris Van Cartier from 10 June to 31 August.
The award-winning production returns to London after playing at the Eventim Apollo in 2022. In a review on London Theatre, our critic said: “It’s a classic, jubilant story of the power of community and coming together set to rollicking music and full of humour and dancing. London audiences are going to fall in love with this gem of a show all over again.”
Based on the beloved film, Sister Act follows lounge singer Deloris Van Cartier as she finds herself in a convent during a witness protection programme. Disguised as a nun and under the suspicious eye of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters to raise their voices.
