‘Red’ to be streamed online, starring Alfred Enoch and Alfred Molina
Red was at the Wyndham's Theatre in 2018.
The latest production to be streamed on The Shows Must Go On! YouTube channel has been announced. Audiences can watch the West End revival of Red, filmed at the Wyndham's Theatre in 2018, from 7pm on 30 November.
Red follows Mark Rothko, a twentieth-century artist as he works on his latest mural set. He's helped by his assistant, Ken, but questions on the commercial aspect of the paintings arise. Red premiered at the Donmar Warehouse in 2009, starring Alfred Molina and Eddie Redmayne. The play transferred to Broadway, winning six Tony Awards.
The play eventually transferred to the West End's Wyndham's Theatre in 2018, with Alfred Molina reprising his performance as Rothko. He was joined by Alfred Enoch as Ken, who made his West End debut.
In a review of Red for LondonTheatre.co.uk, Mark Shenton said: "John Logan's play is a tense and occasionally ferocious exploration of the price of making art... With only two characters onstage, it sometimes threatens to be talkative; but thanks to a supremely artful production, Rothko's art also comes to life as another character that transcends mere language. The art itself becomes living proof of what the play is all about."
