It’s the Almeida Theatre where we lay our scene, as a new production of Romeo and Juliet opens this summer. Romeo and Juliet is at the Almeida Theatre from 6 June to 29 July.

The popular Shakespeare tragedy follows Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, two lovestruck teenagers caught in their family’s longstanding feud.

Toheeb Jimoh will play Romeo. The Emmy-nominated actor is best known for playing Sam Obisanya in the Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso, alongside Olivier Awards host Hannah Waddingham as club owner, Rebecca Welton.

The Olivier-nominated actress Isis Hainsworth, best known for Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour, will play Juliet. The full cast includes Raphael Akuwudike, Jamie Ballard, Miles Barrow, Amanda Bright, Luke Cinque-White, James Cooney, Paul Higgins, Jyuddah Jaymes, Kieron Jecchinis, Jo McInnes, Daniel Phung, Jack Riddiford, and Gideon Turner.

Rebecca Frecknall directs Romeo and Juliet. She’s previously helmed A Streetcar Named Desire, soon to transfer to the Phoenix Theatre, as well as the seven-time Olivier-winning Cabaret revival at the Kit Kat Club.
