‘Newsies’ to open in London in 2022
Get ready to meet the Kings of New York.
Now is the time to seize the day! Newsies will open in London in 2022. In a tweet from the Newsies show account, Newsies will make its London premiere later this year, with a theatre and performance dates to be announced.
The Newsies musical follows Jack, a newspaper boy in late 19th century New York who dreams of a better future. Newsies is based on the Newsboy Strike of 1899 — a two-month campaign which forced change in how newspaper boys were compensated.
After a world premiere at the Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey, Newsies opened on Broadway in spring 2012. Newsies ran for two years at the Nederlander Theatre, and the musical won two Tony Awards: Best Choreography and Best Original Score. The original Newsies cast included Jeremy Jordan as Jack Kelly, Kara Lindsay as Katherine Plumber, and John Dossett as Joseph Pulitzer.
Newsies features a book by Harvey Fierstein, music by Alan Menken, and lyrics by Jack Feldman. Further details on the Newsies London creative team, as well as casting, a theatre, and performance dates will be revealed.
