Ed Harris stars in Sam Shepard’s Buried Child at Trafalgar Studios

Sam Shepard's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Buried Child comes to London.

A new production of Sam Shepard's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Buried Child will run at the Trafalgar Studios One in London's West End from 14 November 2016 to 18 February 2017.

The multi award-winning Ed Harris will make his West End debut in the production opposite Amy Madigan in this dark, macabre and painfully funny family drama that casts a brutal light on disenfranchised citizens, set in 1979 rural America as it reels from a recession and political unrest.

"Dodge (Harris) and Halie (Madigan) are barely hanging on to their farmland and their sanity while looking after their two wayward grown sons. When their grandson Vince arrives with his girlfriend, no one seems to recognize him, and confusion abounds. As Vince tries to make sense of the chaos, the rest of the family dances around a deep, dark secret. This wildly poetic and cuttingly funny take on the American family drama gleefully pulls apart the threadbare deluded visions of our families and our homes."

Sam Shepard is one of greatest American playwrights of his generation and has penned over forty-five plays including; A Lie Of The Mind, True West and Fool For Love. Buried Child premiered in San Francisco in 1978, winning the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1979. A Broadway production ran in 1996 transferring from the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago and was nominated for five Tony Awards.

This new production starring Ed Harris originally premiered off-Broadway at The Pershing Square Signature Center in March 2016, directed by Scott Elliott. It was nominated for two Lucille Lortel Awards, for Outstanding Lead Actor (Ed Harris) and Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play (Paul Sparks).

Harris's film credits include Apollo 13 , The Rock, The Truman Show, The Hours and Pollock. He also won a Golden Globe Award for playing Senator John McCain in Game Change.

Described as "An American gothic masterwork" by the New York Times who compared it as being to American theatre what Harold Pinter's The Homecoming is to the British stage, this is a unique opportunity to see this groundbreaking and powerful American drama.
