David Thaxton to star in Phantom of the Opera in the West End
David Thaxton is set to take on the lead role in The Phantom of the Opera from next month, as Tim Howar temporarily leaves the role due to previous commitments.
Howar is scheduled to play dates on the UK and Europe tour of Mike + the Mechanics, the band he is the lead singer of, in 2019. He will leave the show on 8th December, before returning on 13th May 2019.
In the interim, Thaxton will take on the Phantom's mask, playing his first date in the role on 10th December. Thaxton recently concluded a run playing Javert in Les Miserables at the Queen's Theatre, where he has previously played Enjolras. His other previous credits include playing Raoul in Phantom sequel Love Never Dies, Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar, and his Olivier Award-winning performance in Passion as Giorgio.
The cast of The Phantom of the Opera Thaxton will be joining currently includes Kelly Mathieson as Christine Daaé and Jeremy Taylor as Raoul.
The Phantom of the Opera is currently booking at Her Majesty's Theatre until 5th October 2019.
