Patrick Page to miss performances of 'Hadestown' in the West End
The star was due to return to the production for a limited run alongside André de Shields, Eva Noblezada, Reeve Carney, and Amber Gray, who all performed in the original cast of Hadestown.
Patrick Page, who originated the role of Hades in Hadestown in London and on Broadway, will miss a number of shows in the West End due to injury.
The star was due to return to the production for a limited run alongside André de Shields (as Hermes), Eva Noblezada (as Eurydice), Reeve Carney (as Orpheus), and Amber Gray (as Persephone), who all performed in the original cast of Hadestown.
Performances featuring the original cast begin tonight (11 February).
Page said in a statement: “I have good news and bad news. The bad news is I have been sidelined by an injury—hence the crutches. I will not be performing this week. I will keep you updated as to my condition, my rehab, and when I am able to return. I promise you it will be as soon as possible.”
The musical will be captured for broadcast across three performances, on Friday 28 February and both matinee and evening shows on Saturday 1 March. It is hoped Page will return for those shows, as well as other filming plans from 25 February.
In Page's absence, former Broadway Hades Phillip Boykin will reprise the role in the West End.
Singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell's musical is a retelling of the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, set against a Depression-era backdrop.
The current cast are expected to remain with the production until 9 March 2025, with a new company taking over from 11 March, which includes Cedric Neal and Chris Jarman.
