About A Mirror

A Mirror stars Jonny Lee Miller and is playing at Trafalgar Theatre for a strictly limited run following a sold-out run at the Almeida Theatre last year. Book A Mirror tickets on London Theatre now.

Former National Theatre playwright-in-residence Sam Holcroft’s play is a lacerating and darkly comic exploration of art and state censorship. Set in a totalitarian state where censorship is rife, a group of rebels stage a wedding in order to smuggle their revolutionary play to the public’s attention. The play was inspired by writer Holcroft’s experience of being part of a state-sanctioned trip to North Korea in 2011.

According to London Theatre’s four-star review, “Holcroft’s witty satire is an exuberant experience” and the playwright “reminds us how lucky we are to be able to – freely – stage work like this and express an opinion about it.”

Jonny Lee Miller is best known for his screen performances in Trainspotting, Elementary, Emma, and The Crown, among many other credits. London Theatre’s review observes, “Miller makes a brilliant return to stage, building up the zealous but hypocritical Celik through thoughtful details.” A Mirror marks his first London stage performance in over a decade. He is joined by Tanya Reynolds (Delicious, Sex Education), who has been nominated for an Olivier Award for her performance; Samuel Adewunmi (The Last Tree, You Don’t Know Me), and Geoffrey Streatfeild (Spooks, The Hollow Crown) as the other players in the play within a play.

No stranger to political drama, former Headlong artistic director Jeremy Herrin (Wolf Hall, This House, Labour of Love) directs the multi-layered production, with immersive design by Max Jones (RSC, Open Air Theatre).

Don’t miss out on this uniquely thought-provoking piece of work that will have you questioning your own principles. Book A Mirror tickets on London Theatre today.
