About The 39 Steps

Thriller meets slapstick comedy in the Olivier and Tony-winning, The 39 Steps, a play based on the 1915 novel by John Buchan and the hit 1935 Alfred Hitchcock film. Book The 39 Steps tickets on London Theatre.

After almost a decade off the West End, The 39 Steps returns following a hit UK tour and performances in 39 countries. The cast from the UK tour are reprising their roles during the play's run at Trafalgar Theatre. The talented actors expertly playing all 139 characters are Tom Byrne (Bridgerton, The Crown) as Richard Hannay, Safeena Ladha (The Great Gatsby: The Immersive Show) as Annabella Schmidt, Pamela and Margaret, Eugene McCoy (Groundhog Day, Legally Blonde) as Clown 1, and Maddie Rice (Fleabag, All My Sons) as Clown 2. Hannah Parker and Jacob Daniels are the understudies for this production.

The 39 Steps in London tells the now classic spy thriller tale of the incredibly suave Richard Hannay, who flees London after a woman is murdered in his apartment. He is determined to find the murderer while trying to evade both the police and the woman's killers. The play includes all the action from Hitchcock's fan-favourite film, including a bi-plane crash and even the chase on top of the Flying Scotsman train.

The show has an incredible creative team, including director Nicola Samer (Much Ado About Nothing, Little Women), scenic and costume design by Olivier-winning Peter McKintosh (Crazy For You), and sound design by Tony-winning and Olivier-nominated Mic Pool (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel).

"We cannot think of a better production to delight audiences this summer than with this hilarious, joyous, and quintessentially British adaptation by Patrick Barlow of Alfred Hitchcock's classic spy thriller," producer Ed Snape of Fiery Angel said in a statement.
