Born in Birkenhead in 1989, Taron Egerton is a Golden Globe-winning actor, best known for portraying Elton John in the musical film Rocketman. Egerton returned to the stage in 2022, starring in Cock at the Ambassadors Theatre.
Unlike many actors, Egerton fell into performing slightly later in life, beginning to act in productions as a teenager. However, he clearly found his passion, graduating with a BA in Acting from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 2012. Egerton is best known as a screen actor though, having appeared in numerous television series and films. Thanks to an acclaimed performance in Kingsman: The Secret Service in 2013, he was subsequently cast in movies such as Testament of Youth, ski jumper Michael Edwards in Eddie the Eagle and lent his voice to Johnny the gorilla in Sing.
After starring in films such as Robin Hood and Billionaire Boys Club, Egerton’s breakout role came in 2019, playing Elton John in Rocketman. For his performance, Egerton won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, and also picked up BAFTA and Grammy nominations. He’s even sung live with Elton John, appearing in concert during Elton’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
In 2022, Egerton returned to the stage for the first time in eight years. Egerton appeared in Cock at the Ambassadors Theatre, joining a star-studded cast including Jonathan Bailey, Jade Anouka and Phil Daniels.
