Born in Birmingham in 1968, Adrian Lester is an Olivier Award-winning performer who has appeared on West End stages for nearly three decades. In 2013, he was also appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to drama.
In 1991, Lester starred as Rosalind in an all-male production of As You Like It, receiving an Ian Charleson Award commendation for classical performances by actors under 30, with Hugh Bonneville also commended that same year. He’s also appeared in West End musicals including Sweeney Todd at the National Theatre and Robert in Company, winning an Olivier Award.
His CV of West End plays include Brick in Tennessee William's Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at the Novello Theatre and Henry V at the National Theatre. In 2013, Lester starred as the titular character in Othello alongside Rory Kinnear as Iago. More recently, he's starred in off-West End plays, including Cost of Living at the Hampstead Theatre and Hymn at the Almeida Theatre. Lester made his Broadway debut in the transferring production of The Lehman Trilogy.
