'Your Lie in April' announces new closing date in the West End
Your Lie in April follows the story of a piano prodigy who loses his ability to play after his mother's death, but rediscovers his gift through a new friendship.
Manga musical Your Lie in April has announced that it will close early in the West End. The musical was due to run until 21 September, but will now finish on 11 August at the Harold Pinter Theatre.
The musical, which follows the story of a piano prodigy who loses his ability to play after his mother's death, but rediscovers his gift through a new friendship, received a four-star review from London Theatre earlier this month.
Our critic said: "Your Lie in April gives a deserving showcase to exciting talent, while conveying touching messages such as the need to embrace love’s sorrow as well as joy. You’ll find both in spades in this impassioned, uplifting and deeply moving musical."
Producers said: “We are proud to have made history by bringing the first manga musical to the West End and to have given the opportunity for the first 100 per cent Asian and Southeast Asian cast to perform in a West End musical. Our journey from two sold out concerts at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane to a full West End production at The Harold Pinter Theatre (hosting its first musical since 2016) turned around in a matter of weeks due to popular demand. We are immensely proud of the show and the amazing work from the creative team, cast, crew, and musicians – and we thank them for their dedication and incredible work. It is particularly exciting to us how many people made Your Lie in April their first ever West End musical experience. And to our audiences who dressed the part and cheered them on, we say Bravo!”
Your Lie in April has music by Frank Wildhorn, with lyrics by Carly Robyn Green and Tracy Miller, English book by Rinne B Groff, music arrangement and orchestration by Jason Howland, and original book by Riko Sakaguchi
