Virginia Gay's 'Cyrano' announces casting for Park Theatre run
Writer and performer Virginia Gay's reimagining of the Edmond Rostand classic earned a Fringe First award for its run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer.
Casting has been announced for Virginia Gay's gender-flipped version of Cyrano de Bergerac, which opens at the Park Theatre in London on 11 December.
Virginia Gay (Colin from Accounts, Winners & Losers, All Saints, Dancing With The Stars), who has written the show and performed as Cyrano at the Traverse Theatre during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer, will reprise the role.
Jessica Whitehurst (Ridley, The Comedy of Errors) plays Roxanne and Joseph Evans makes his stage debut as Yan. The company is completed by Tessa Wong (Black Mirror, Hedda), David Tarkenter (The Motive and the Cue, The Red Barn), and Tanvi Virmani (Minority Report, The Crown Jewels). Clare Watson directs.
Gay's reimagining of the Edmond Rostand classic follows Cyrano, a wordsmith and charmer who hides behind their poetry instead of expressing their feelings openly. When the attractive Yan starts saying the most beautiful things to beautiful Roxanne, it becomes clear that another writer is involved.
The Fringe First award-winning production’s creative team also includes designer Amanda Stoodley and lighting designer Andy Purves.
