'The Hills of California' sets West End cast
Playwright Jez Butterworth and director Sam Mendes, the team behind the award-winning play The Ferryman, reunite to bring a new play to London's West End.
Jez Butterworth's highly anticipated new play The Hills of California has revealed their cast. The Hills of California will play at the Harold Pinter Theatre for a strictly limited run from 27 January to 15 June.
Leading the cast are Laura Donnelly (The Ferryman, The Nevers, Outlander), Leanne Best (Sweat, Ripper Street, Line of Duty), Ophelia Lovibond (Minx, W1A, The Effect) and Helena Wilson (Vogue World, Jack Absolute Flies Again, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern) as the Webb family.
Bryan Dick, Shaun Dooley, Corey Johnson, Richard Lumsden, Natasha Magigi, Nancy Allsop, Sophia Ally, Alfie Jackson, Lara McDonnell, Lucy Moran, and Nicola Turner complete the cast.
After their success with the multi-award-winning play The Ferryman, Jez Butterworth (Jerusalem) and Sam Mendes (The Lehman Trilogy) return to the West End with their latest production. The creative team also includes lighting designer Rob Howell, sound designer Natasha Chivers, choreographer Nick Powell, and musical supervisor Ellen Kane.
Set during the scorching summer of 1976, the driest period in two centuries, Blackpool's sun-soaked beaches are drawing large crowds. However, amidst the sweltering heat, a contrasting tale unfolds in the backstreets, where the Webb Sisters revisit their dying mother's run-down guest house.
