Nicole Scherzinger to star in 'Sunset Boulevard' directed by Jamie Lloyd

The singer and actress will play the role of fading film star Norma Desmond in a new production playing at the Savoy Theatre for 16 weeks starting in September.

UPDATE: Sunset Boulevard starring Nicole Scherzinger will run for 16 weeks from 18 September to 6 January, with opening night on 5 October. Priority booking begins at 10 a.m. on 13 June, and general booking opens at 10 a.m. on 14 June.

She's the greatest star of all! Nicole Scherzinger will star in a new production of Sunset Boulevard in the West End. Jamie Lloyd will direct the revival at the Savoy Theatre for 16 weeks only, beginning this September.

“After our reappraisal of Evita at the Open Air Theatre, Regent’s Park, I’m very excited to rediscover another iconic Lloyd Webber musical — and Sunset Boulevard is one of his most thrilling, complex and atmospheric scores," Lloyd said in a statement. "We are so fortunate to have the opportunity to create a new production of this fascinating piece with the extraordinary Nicole Scherzinger.”

Scherzinger is best known as the lead singer of the girl group The Pussycat Dolls, but she has appeared in multiple stage and screen musicals, including the 2014 West End revival of Webber's Cats, which earned her an Olivier Award nomination.

Webber said in a statement, “Nicole is one of the finest singers I have worked with, and I can’t wait to get started on this exciting show with her and the rest of this brilliant team.”

In Sunset Boulevard, Scherzinger stars as aging film star Norma Desmond, who gets close with a budding Hollywood screenwriter in the hopes of reviving her career, but their relationship soon turns disastrous. The book and lyrics are by Don Black and Christopher Hampton, and the songs, composed by Webber, include "As If We Never Said Goodbye" and "With One Look."

The production is being mounted by Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals and The Jamie Lloyd Company, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary. The company's other productions this year include A Doll's House starring Jessica Chastain on Broadway and The Effect starring Paapa Essiedu and Taylor Russell, running at the Lyttelton Theatre from 1 August.

Sunset Boulevard is at the Savoy Theatre from September.
