New theatre to open at Wembley Park in London in autumn 2018
A new theatre is set to open in the heart of Wembley this autumn as part of a huge development at Wembley Park.
Troubadour Theatres, the team behind the King's Cross Theatre, will run the new space which is being developed on the former site of Fountain Studios, which is the former venue for live television recordings of shows such as Pop Idol and The X Factor.
The new space will include a fully flexible 1,000 to 2,000 seater space, able to transform to productions whether they require a traditional proscenium arch, an in-the-round space, or an immersive experience. It will also include a new bar, open air terrace and a restaurant.
The first production at the theatre is set to be announced in the coming months.
A new theatre at Wembley in the works since 2014, when it was announced a purpose-built theatre would host a theatrical experience based on The Hunger Games books. However, it was later announced that the production had been delayed, and no further announcements have been made.
Of the new Wembley Park theatre, Tristan Baker and Oliver Royds of Troubadour Theatres said:
"Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre will be a modern venue for modern audiences: comfortable seating, increased leg room, a spacious and welcoming bar, a seasonal and innovative restaurant. And for theatre makers, we offer a flexible, dynamic and exciting performance space which can be designed around the shows.
"We see theatre audiences increasing year on year and we are excited, once again, to break the mould of traditional theatres and bring new innovative spaces to audiences and producers alike."
