Lead casting announced for 'Fiddler on the Roof'
Fiddler on the Roof has been nominated for 13 Olivier Awards following its run at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, including Best Musical Revival and Best Director.
Initial casting has been announced for the 13-time Olivier nominated Fiddler on the Roof, which opens at the Barbican in London as part of its summer season. The show opened to rave reviews at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre last year.
All reprising their roles from Regent's Park are Adam Dannheisser (nominated for Best Actor in a Musical) as Tevye, Lara Pulver (nominated for Best Actress in a Musical) as Golde, and Beverley Klein (nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Musical) as Yente.
In a review for LondonTheatre.co.uk, our critic said: "In an excellent cast, Adam Dannheisser is captivating as Tevye: likeable, funny and warm. He also has a lovely chemistry with Lara Pulver as a pragmatic and stoic Golde. Their beautiful rendition of “Do You Love Me?” movingly demonstrates the profound connections of a long marriage."
Adam Dannheisser said: “So incredibly excited and grateful to have the opportunity to revisit this role, this play, this cast and team and the proud, brave world of Anatevka.”
Lara Pulver added: “After our acclaimed, sold-out run at Regent’s Park, I am thrilled to be part of this magical production for its limited run at the Barbican. I hope many more will be swept up by our stellar cast of musicians and actors and will find it as thought provoking, entertaining and infinitely hummable as this iconic show can be.”
Beverley Klein said: “I’m so excited to be returning to the Barbican after 40 years, where we rehearsed and performed the original production of Les Misérables. I’m back there at last with our wonderful production of Fiddler on the Roof direct from Regent’s Park and I’m so happy to be playing Yente once more.”
Set in 1905 in the tiny village of Anatevka, Tevye, a Jewish milkman, finds himself caught between tradition and a changing world as he tries to marry off his daughters, but three push back in their desire to marry for love.
