'Hadestown' to play the Lyric Theatre from February 2024
The award-winning musical returns to London for the first time since its National Theatre premiere in 2018, after playing for more than four years on Broadway.
Follow the road to hell to the Lyric Theatre. Hadestown will play the Lyric Theatre in the West End, with performances beginning on 10 February 2024.
Hadestown returns to London after the musical five years after debuting there in 2018 at the National Theatre. Before that, creator Anaïs Mitchell developed her show over the course of a decade, expanding it from a concept album into a full-fledged musical.
After its London premiere, Hadestown went to Broadway in 2019, winning eight Tony Awards including Best Musical. The show has since played more than 1,000 Broadway performances.
The creative team includes director Rachel Chavkin, set designer Rachel Hauck, costume designer Michael Krass, lighting designer Bradley King, sound designers Nevin Steinberg and Jessica Paz, choreographer David Neumann, music director and vocal arranger Liam Robinson, arrangers and orchestrators Michael Chorney and Todd Sickafoose, and dramaturg Ken Cerniglia.
Casting for Hadestown at the Lyric Theatre will be announced in due course.
What is Hadestown about?
Hadestown weaves together the Greek myths of Orpheus, Eurydice, Hades, Persephone, and more. Orpheus travels to the hellish underworld to rescue his lover, Eurydice, from a lifetime of endless and soulless labor, but the journey there and back is not easy. The story is set to folk and jazz music.
