'Hadestown' announces full West End cast
Anaïs Mitchell's Tony Award-winning musical Hadestown, based on the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, will return to London next year at the Lyric Theatre.
The award-winning musical Hadestown has confirmed the cast for the West End production. Hadestown will begin performances on 10 February 2024 at the Lyric Theatre.
Dónal Finn (The Wheel of Time) and Grace Hodgett Young (Sunset Boulevard) will star as the ill-fated lovers Orpheus and Eurydice, with Zachary James (The Addams Family) as Hades, Melanie La Barrie (& Juliet) as Hermes, and Gloria Onitiri (Cinderella) as Persephone.
Bella Brown, Madeline Charlemagne, and Allie Daniel will play the Fates, and Lauren Azania, Tiago Dhondt Bamberger, Beth Hinton-Lever, Waylon Jacobs, and Christopher Short will play the Workers, alongside swings Lucinda Buckley, Ryesha Higgs, Miriam Nyarko, and Simon Oskarsson.
Hadestown made its world premiere at the National Theatre in 2018. It returns to London after winning eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album for the Broadway production.
Hadestown features music and lyrics by Grammy Award-winning Anaïs Mitchell, with direction by Rachel Chavkin. The creative team also includes David Neumann (choreography), Rachel Hauck (scenic design), Michael Krass (costume design), Bradley King (lighting design), Nevin Steinberg and Jessica Paz (sound design), Liam Robinson (music supervision and vocal arrangements), Michael Chorney and Todd Sickafoose (arrangements and orchestrations), and Ken Cerniglia (dramaturgy).
Inspired by the Greek myth, Hadestown takes you on a journey to the Underworld set to a fusion of New Orleans jazz and American folk music.
