Casting announced for 'Shucked' UK premiere
The musical comedy comes to the UK following an acclaimed Broadway run in 2023 and a US tour and follows the trials of a small, rural community when their corn crop starts to die.
The lead cast has been revealed for the UK premiere of Shucked, as part of Drew McOnie's inaugural season at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre. Performances will begin on 10 May, running until 14 June.
The musical comedy, which has a book by Tony Award winner Robert Horn, music and lyrics by Tony Award nominees Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally, and direction by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien, comes to the UK following an acclaimed Broadway run in 2023 and a US tour. The musical follows a rural community that is dependent on the production of corn. When the crop starts to die, a young woman sets out to find someone who can save her small town.
The lead cast includes Monique Ashe-Palmer (Standing at the Sky’s Edge) as Storyteller 1, Ben Joyce (Jersey Boys, Back to the Future the Musical) as Beau, Sophie McShera (The Entertainer, Jerusalem) as Maizy, Georgina Onuorah (Hamilton, Kiss Me, Kate, The Wizard of Oz) as Lulu, Keith Ramsay (The Play That Goes Wrong) as Peanut, Matthew Seadon-Young (The Baker’s Wife, Rockets and Blue Lights) as Gordy, and Steven Webb (Here You Come Again) as Storyteller 2.
