Interview: Ken Watanabe on bringing The King and I to the London Palladium
Actor Ken Watanabe was nominated for a Tony Award for his Broadway debut as the King of Siam in The King and I in 2015, and this summer he reprises his role in the show at the London Palladium.
Watanabe stars alongside Kelli O'Hara in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, which is about Anna, a British teacher who is hired by the king to help drive the modernisation of his country. It features musical standards such as "Getting to Know You", "Shall We Dance?" and "I Whistle a Happy Tune".
With such a great reception in New York, Watanabe will be hoping for similar success as he makes his London stage debut. We sat down to ask the Japanese actor a few questions about his experiences with the show.
