About Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical

A bold new musical honours the Jamaican reggae superstar Bob Marley, whose indelible songs and rebellious spirit continue to inspire millions around the world. Bob Marley's life story is an extraordinary one, and Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical provides both drama and celebratory stories in one. The artist began playing at a young age, inspired by a combination of Jamaican ska music and the R&B that he heard on US radio stations.

What type of music does Bob Marley sing?

With his group the Wailers, Bob Marley became a reggae pioneer — and then a global star when Eric Clapton covered "I Shot the Sheriff," reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100. That was followed by the huge success of "No Woman, No Cry."

However, it wasn't all smooth sailing for Marley. He survived an attempt on his life, which led to him leaving Jamaica — although he later returned to perform at a concert attempting to broker political peace.

His hit single "One Love" exemplifies that ethos, and features heavily in Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical London production. Marley tragically died of cancer in 1981, departing with the wise words "Money can't buy life."

The Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical West End production has the blessing of Marley's family — and full access to his incomparable back catalogue. Check out all the Bob Marley songs in Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical in London.
