About Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story on Stage

Nobody puts this musical in the corner anymore. Carry a watermelon to the Dominion Theatre this spring.

If you've seen the film, then you'll love Dirty Dancing on stage. There’s 35 songs in Dirty Dancing, including songs from the film like “She’s Like the Wind,” and “Do You Love Me?”, as well as original songs written for the stage. And yes, the Grammy-winning track “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” gets its West End moment too. Secure your visit to Kellerman's now to see Dirty Dancing in London.

Dirty Dancing will go down in history as one of the greatest musical films of all time. But the initial idea came from cut scenes in a previous film. Writer Eleanor Bergstein was inspired to create Dirty Dancing after her previous film — It's My Turn — had erotic scenes cut in production. Thankfully, there’s plenty of sizzling action throughout Dirty Dancing the musical, including the watermelon scene and that lift.

In a Dirty Dancing musical review on London Theatre, our critic said it's a joyful and nostalgic time capsule that's irrestible theatrical time travel.

What is Dirty Dancing about?

Set in the summer of 1963, 17-year-old Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman heads on a family holiday to New York’s Catskill Mountains. She’s unenthused by the resort activities on offer, but her interest is piqued when she lays eyes on Johnny Castle, the resort dance instructor. Swept up in a holiday romance, Frances and Johnny fall for one another, culminating in the best summer of their lives.
