The Donmar Warehouse's production of City of Angels, directed by Josie Rourke, is set to transfer to the Garrick Theatre in March 2020 starring Rosalie Craig and Hadley Fraser reprising their roles alongside Rebecca Trehearn and Vanessa Williams. Tickets for this exciting West End transfer now on sale.
With music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by David Zippel and a book by Larry Gelbart, City of Angels blends the stories of a writer trying to turn his latest book into a screenplay, and the fictional world lifted from his novel. Set in 1940s Hollywood, the show sees most the actors double up to play characters in the 'real-life' storyline (which is played out in full colour), and the 'movie' story (which has a film noir feel).
Following Josie Rourke's production at the Donmar Warehouse in 2014 - which was her musical directional debut, City of Angels will run at the Garrick Theatre from 5th March 2020 with tickets on sale from Monday, 4th November.
Reprising their roles from the original Donmar run, Rosalie Craig (Company) will play Gabby/Bobbi, Hadley Fraser (Young Frankenstein) will play Stine, and Rebecca Trehearn (Showboat) will play Donna/Oolie. Vanessa Williams, the Ugly Betty actor who will be making her West End debut, will play Carla/Alaura.
Please note:
Rosalie Craig will not perform the role of Gabby/Bobbi on Monday evenings from Monday 30th March.
Theo James, Rosalie Craig and Rob Houchen will be in the show until Saturday 30th May.
Nicola Roberts and Vanessa Williams will be in the show until Saturday 25th July.
The creative team for the show includes choreographer Stephen Mear, lighting designer Howard Harrison, set and costume designer Rob Jones, sound designer Terry Jardine, and video designer Duncan McLean.
City of Angels was first performed on Broadway in 1989, and opened in the West End in 1993 starring Roger Allam and Martin Smith. That production won the Olivier Award for best new musical.
The cast of City of Angels at the Donmar in 2014 also starred Sandra Marvin, Jennifer Saayeng, Kadiff Kirwan, Jo Servi as the City Angels, as well as Samantha Barks and Peter Polycarpou.
City of Angels tickets are now on sale.
