Ivo van Hove directs a new adaptation of All About Eve, the Academy Award-winning film by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, starring Gillian Anderson and Lily James. The show will be produced by Sonia Friedman Productions and Fox Stage Productions.
All About Eve runs at the Noel Coward Theatre until 11th May 2019, following its opening night on 12th February 2019. All About Eve tickets are on sale now.
Mankiewicz directed the film in 1950, which starred Bette Davis, Anne Baxter and George Sanders. It went on to win six Academy Awards from its 14 nominations, and is the only film in Oscar history to receive four female acting nominations. It is highly regarded as one of the best classic American films ever made, among the first 50 films selected by the United States National Film Registry for preservation.
Gillian Anderson is set to appear in the London production of All About Eve as Margo Channing. Anderson is probably best-known for her starring role in the long-running US series The X Files as FBI special agent Dana Scully. Before X Files fame, she started her career on stage, appearing in plays like Alan Ayckbourn's Absent Friends and Christopher Hampton's The Philanthropist in the US. She made her London theatre debut in The Vagina Monologues at the turn of the millennium, and went on to appear in a number of subsequent London productions, such as What The Night Is For. The Sweetest Swing in Baseball and A Doll's House. Her most recent stage triumph came at the Young Vic in 2014 when she starred in Benedict Andrews' production of A Streetcar Named Desire, which went on to transfer to Broadway.
English actress Lily James is also set to star in All About Eve in London, and will play Eve Harington. James starred in a number of series of ITV period drama Downton Abbey as Lady Rose MacClare, before her breakthrough Hollywood role came in Disney's live-action remake of Cinderella. On stage, James made her West End debut as Juliet in Romeo and Juliet opposite Richard Madden in Kenneth Branagh's year-long season at the Garrick Theatre.
Belgian director Ivo van Hove is known for his productions such as Roman Tragedies and Obsession at the Barbican Centre, David Bowie musical Lazarus and Network, starring Bryan Cranston at the National Theatre.
All About Eve is at the Noel Coward Theatre in London's West End in 2019 for a limited 14-week run, and tickets are on sale now.
