About An Oak Tree

On its 20th anniversary, the pioneering play, An Oak Tree, comes to the Young Vic Theatre stage produced by Olivier Award-winning Francesca Moody Productions (Fleabag, Baby Reindeer). Book An Oak Tree tickets on London Theatre.

This transformational play tells the story of a father losing his daughter in a car accident. The driver of the car that killed his daughter is a stage hypnotist, and the two meet when the father attends one of the hypnotist's shows and volunteers to be part of the act. Thus begins a shocking tale of loss, the power of the mind, and the unexpected.

An Oak Tree in London stars Tim Crouch, who is also the creator and director of the show. This production utilizes the 'cold read' style with a new guest on every show who hasn't seen or read the play. Among the guest actors are Luke Thompson (Bridgerton), Russell Tovey (American Horror Story: NYC), Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Sope Dirisu (Gangs of London), Michelle Terry (Tribes), and more.

Thompson said, "I'm very excited to join the Oak Tree family and be a part of a piece which I think takes the very best thing about going to the theatre, that is, something actually happening live in front of you rather than filtered through a screen. I'd say more but I have no clue what I'm in for…"

The exceptional creative team includes direction by Tim Crouch, Karl James, and Andy Smith and music by Peter Gill.

An Oak Tree is a play that premiered in 2005 at Traverse Theatre at the Edinburgh Festival, where it had a sell-out run and earned a Herald Angel Award. Since its smash hit first run, it's had successful stagings worldwide, and numerous notable actors have starred alongside Crouch, including Frances McDormand, Alanis Morrisette, and Peter Dinklage.
