Hytner first staged A Midsummer Night's Dream in 2019 in a critically acclaimed run at the Bridge Theatre. As the New York Times said, "Nicholas Hytner's production at Bridge Theatre in London finds something fresh in a work that sometimes feels as if it's being done out of duty."
A Midsummer Night's Dream in London stars JJ Feild (Ring Round The Moon), Susannah Fielding (The Crossing Plays), Emmanuel Akwafo (As You Like It), and David Moorst (To Kill A Mockingbird).
A Midsummer Night's Dream is a play with an excellent creative team from the 2019 staging at the Bridge Theatre, including design by Bunny Christie (Tammy Faye), costume by Christina Cunningham (A Minute Too Late), lighting by Bruno Poet (Richard II) and sound by Paul Arditti (Stranger Things: The First Shadow).
The story of love, mischief, and dreams has been staged countless times worldwide, and it's also been adapted into a wide range of other media. Elvis Costello composed the music for the ballet Il Sogno, which was based on A Midsummer Night's Dream. In 2016, BBC One had a 90-minute TV film adaptation of the play, and in 1692 Henry Purcell’s The Fairy-Queen opera was based on the play.
