Fresh from its sell-out run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, The Last Laugh, a comedy re-imagining the lives of three British comedy legends — Tommy Cooper, Eric Morecambe, and Bob Monkhouse — comes to Noël Coward Theatre. Book The Last Laugh tickets on London Theatre.
The Last Laugh in London stars Olivier Award-nominated Bob Golding (Morecambe, Elvis the Musical) as Morecambe, Simon Cartwright (Howerd's End, Toast of London) as Monkhouse, and Damian Williams (Being Tommy Cooper, Hairspray) as Cooper. The trio are reprising their roles from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
In The Last Laugh it imagines what could have happened if three very different British comedy heroes met up in a dressing room before a show. Each man is a big name in the history of British comedy---Eric Morecambe is best known for his comedy act Morecambe and Wise, with Ernie Wise. Bob Monkhouse is perhaps best known for hosting game shows, including The Golden Shot and Family Fortunes. Tommy Cooper created a unique blend of deadpan comedy and clumsy magic tricks. The play, filled with laughter and nostalgia, explores their big personalities and comedy styles.
As producer Jamie Wilson said of the show, "What is so brilliant about this play is the audiences who love and remember Eric, Tommy and Bob will be able to relive their comedy greatness and those that don't, will be introduced to the genius of these national treasures."
The Last Laugh is a play by multi-award-winning Paul Hendy, who also directs the show. The Last Laugh began as a short film that Hendy produced in 2016.
The talented creative team also includes set design by Lee Newby (Labour of Love), music and soundscape design by Ethan Lewis Maltby (Hamlet), sound design by Callum Wills (Hairspray), and costume design by Amy Chamberlain (Snow White).
