…blackbird hour in London is a tale of caring and belonging. The show tells the story of Eshe, a queer Black woman seeking to love herself in the face of love being made scarce. The brilliant cast includes Evlyne Oyedokun (An Inspector Calls) in the role of Eshe, Olivia Nakintu (BBC's Am I Being Unreasonable), Ivan Oyik (Shook), and Danielle Kassaraté (I Wonder If).

…blackbird hour is a play by babirye bukilwa; it's the first play that they wrote a decade ago. The show has earned numerous accolades, including being shortlisted for the 2019 Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting, the 2020 inaugural Women's Prize for Playwriting, and the 2020 Alfred Fagon Award. Their play, …cake, written as the prequel to …blackbird hour, was staged at Theatre Peckham and was nominated for the Alfred Fagon Award in 2021. Additionally, their play The Master's House was shortlisted for the 2022 George Devine Award, and it was also made into an audio drama on BBC Radio 4.

The consummate creative team includes director malakaï sergeant (We Are Here To Make Change), designer Khadija Raza (Peanut butter and blueberries), lighting designer Jahmiko Marshall (The welkin), sound designer and composer Mwen (A Home for Tender Hearts), creative captions and video designer Will Monks (Petula), and the play is brought to the stage by Vital Xposure.

As sergeant said, "This incredibly special play wouldn't be what it is now without the contributions of all of the Black creatives who have shaped it over the years. I can't wait to build on this and share my take on Eshe's world as we meet her again following 2021's ...cake."
