The world premiere of Robert Icke's latest play, Manhunt, based on one of the most infamous manhunts in UK history, comes to the Royal Court Theatre. Book Manhunt tickets on London Theatre.
On July 1st, 2010, Raoul Moat was released from Durham Prison. The play follows the ensuing days, quickly becoming one of the biggest manhunts in UK history as Moat was pursued across Northumberland. Over just a few days, one man was murdered, a woman was left fighting for her life, and a police officer was blinded.
The story has captivated the nation. The ITV series, The Hunt For Raoul Moat, aired in 2023. Newcastle journalist Andrew Hankinson wrote the book, You Could Do Something Amazing with Your Life [You Are Raoul Moat] about the incident.
Manhunt in London stars Samuel Edward-Cook (Player Kings), Trevor Fox (As You Like It), Leo James (The Addams Family), Patricia Jones (Mycelial), Danny Kirrane (The Hunt), Angela Lonsdale (Bluebird), Sally Messham (Black Mountain), and Nicolas Tennant (The Birthday Party).
This Royal Court commission is written and directed by Olivier award-winning Robert Icke. As the Royal Court Theatre artistic director David Byrne said, "It's the part of the world where Robert is from, and it is an epic piece of work," explained Byrne. "He's going to look at every aspect of that story and it's a very different piece of work for Robert but he's used to taking on those big stories and this is the modern version of that."
Manhunt is a play with a talented creative team which includes design by Hildegard Bechtler (Oresteia), lighting design by Azusa Ono (A Mirror), sound design by Tom Gibbons (Dear England), video design by Ash J Woodward (Dear England), and fight direction by Kev McCurdy (Punch).
